Nearly 10 years after Maestro Claudio Abbado has left the Berliner Philharmoniker , he returns to honor one of the greatest composers of the 19th century : Gustav Mahler .
During his tenure as Music Director of the Berliner Philharmoniker Abbado's Mahler interpretations aroused great sensation , and today he is one of the best interpreters of Mahler world . Along with the well-known Mahler singer Anne Sofie von Otter and the famous tenor Jonas Kaufmann ( Echo Klassik " Singer of the Year " 2010) they honor the 100th anniversary of Gustav Mahler on 18 May.
